This journey unfolds as a passage across Asia, from the warmth and colour of Southeast Asia to the vast, high-altitude stillness of Tibet and the Himalaya.
Beginning in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, the route moves gradually north through Bangkok and into Laos, where the pace slows along the Mekong and in the temple town of Luang Prabang. From here, the journey deepens, travelling into Yunnan's upland landscapes, through Pu'er's tea-growing hills, Kunming's vibrant city life and the distinctive architecture of Dali by the lakeside. Beyond, the landscape shifts again. Crossing into the Tibetan Plateau by rail, the journey ascends into a more elemental environment before arriving in Lhasa, where monasteries, prayer and daily rhythms shape the city. The final stages lead across the plateau and into Nepal, where time in Tibet and Kathmandu introduces a different pace, setting a cultural perspective to close the journey.
